If you want to know exactly how well you are brushing, and enjoy gadgetry, this is the toothbrush for you. On the handle is a single button, which serves to turn the brush on and off, plus a large color touchscreen that allows you to switch between modes by swiping and tapping. It’s clear what ‘right palate side’ and ‘left cheek side’ mean, but ‘your dedicated zone’ is something of a mystery.

However, there’s a slight problem in that you can’t see the display while brushing and sometimes the mouth quadrant graphic, which Oclean says is an 8-zone blind spot monitoring display, didn’t entirely chime with where you’d brushed. These steps aren’t shown on the app’s screen as you brush, so you’ll need to follow them on your phone’s screen, changing to the next one each time the brush vibration changes. This effectively removes plaque and protects tooth enamel for a powerful and comprehensive mouth cleaning experience.The brush-head is a great shape for cleaning the whole mouth, and our teeth felt clean after a brush even on a low-intensity setting. The Oclean X Pro Elite seems to be more picky than Oral-B and Philips brushes when it comes to covering all your teeth surfaces, which may be beneficial if your dentist tells you that you often miss a particular spot.

In fact, it’s barely audible with your mouth closed, which might lead you to believe that its action is less powerful than noisier brushes. At the end of the session, the display will offer you a brushing score and show your total brushing time. The X Pro Elite sits neatly in the middle of their range of smart toothbrushes, whilst sitting at the top of their “ultra-quiet” range. The toothbrush is controlled via a colour touchscreen on the front and a single button that switches it on and off and selects menu options. What makes the Oclean X Pro Elite a smart toothbrush is the inclusion of a 6-axis gyroscope and pressure sensors.Then once it was finished charging I removed the toothbrush from the base and simply pressed the “On” button, downloaded the app and followed the set-up instructions to get the app on my phone. Yes, the Oclean X Pro Elite can be paired with your smartphone through the Oclean mobile app, available for both Android and iOS. The first thing you’ll notice about the Oclean X Pro Elite is that it’s quiet – even quieter than the Oral-B Series 9. After 26 days of use twice a day for two minutes each, the toothbrush still had 27% left, meaning you lose roughly 1-2% of battery life every time you brush your teeth for two minutes.

You can identify and monitor 8 large areas of the mouth, detect the effect of brushing and display the areas that have not been sufficiently brushed. You can also add more information to enable the Oclean X Pro Elite to choose a profile for your cleaning. It tells you when to move to a new section of your mouth by vibrating every 30 seconds and gives you a summary of your clean when you’ve finished, highlighting on the screen which areas you may have missed. That’s not the case, though – the X Pro Elite is capable of vibrating up to 42,000 times per minute on its highest setting.

That noise is limited to just a maximum of 45db according to the marketing and is achieved by a maglev system within the Oclean X Pro Elite to limit the overall movement.
